Cris, our Habitat Restoration Program Manager has been finishing up the Environmental DNA Monitoring report from our specimen collection data results and findings.
The project aimed to determine the presence of Upper Willamette River Chinook in the mainstem Calapooia River through environmental DNA sampling.
This population of Chinook salmon was listed as Threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 1999.
The eDNA monitoring project collected 91 samples from the Calapooia and positively detected Chinook DNA in 12 of the samples.
This information will be used to help conservation efforts and Chinook recovery in the Calapooia River basin.
This project was completed with support from Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, and services provided by our two monitoring techs Maddie O’Bryant and Ellie Rondon. Laboratory analysis was performed by the National Genomics Center for Wildlife and Fish Conservation.
